Dutch Maid Cuts Risky Driving with Netradyne

Company Summary

Dutch Maid Logistics is a family-oriented, refrigerated truckload carrier based in Willard, Ohio. The company is known for its courteous, experienced, and service-oriented drivers and staff. Dutch Maid attributes its growth to this dedicated team and its reliable, well-maintained equipment, factors that remain key to the company’s ongoing success since their start in 1974.

Challenge

Dutch Maid’s commitment to “Safety is #1” was challenged by a lack of visibility into what was happening on the road. In the event of an incident, the company had to rely on driver testimony and limited dash cam footage, which created ambiguity. “It was hard to tell what was going on. We just had to take the driver’s word for it,” recalls Joseph Raghanti, CDS, Director of Safety. This absence of clear evidence made it difficult to coach drivers effectively or exonerate them when they were not at fault.

Solution

In 2022, Dutch Maid adopted Netradyne’s Driver•i video safety platform across their fleet. The artificial intelligence (AI) powered system captures 100% of drive time and analyzes high-definition video and driving behavior in real-time, scoring drivers on safe and risky behaviors. This data gave Raghanti and his team the insight they needed to truly understand driving performance and improve safety outcomes.

“Before Netradyne, we had another system that was supposed to do the same thing, but it just wasn’t user-friendly. Driver•i is completely different. It’s easy to use and it gives us a full picture of what’s happening on the road.” -

Results

Since switching to Netradyne, Dutch Maid has seen a dramatic transformation in both driver behavior and safety culture. Risky driving behaviors, including speeding, harsh braking, and close following, have decreased significantly. This statistic not only represents improved safety on the road but also fewer violations, reduced liability, and lower insurance costs for the company.

Drivers have become more engaged in their performance and safety records. "They’re more aware of what they’re doing now," says Raghanti. "We’ve seen drivers actively checking their scores, asking for feedback, and even helping each other improve."

Raghanti shared a recent example where a newer driver flagged his own video after a hard brake and asked how to better anticipate traffic patterns. "That kind of initiative and learning mindset just wasn’t happening before."

Netradyne’s GreenZone® Score has also played a major role in this cultural evolution by recognizing drivers for proactive, safe behaviors like stopping at signs, maintaining safe following distance, staying attentive, and avoiding speeding. The GreenZone is the industry’s first driver score built on positive reinforcement, versus solely focusing on negative events. Drivers receive DriverStars for safe driving and gain visibility into risky behavior.

“We had one driver who consistently scored high for smooth lane changes and good following distance. He got a DriverStar, and now others are asking how they can earn one too. It’s made safety a shared goal rather than a top-down directive.”

Over the past 12 months, Dutch Maid increased their average GreenZone score from 912 to 941, comparing the first four weeks to the last four. They outperformed similar-sized Netradyne fleets with comparable tenure by 11% in average GreenZone score. During the same period, Driver Stars per 1,000 minutes driven rose by 9%, Driver Stars per Severe Alert improved by 106%, while Severe Alerts decreased by 47% and Moderate Alerts decreased by 14%, per 1,000 minutes driven.

This combination of transparency, accountability, and recognition has led to a significant and sustainable improvement in safety performance across Dutch Maid’s operations.

Looking Ahead

Dutch Maid plans to deepen its use of Netradyne insights in driver training programs and long-term retention strategies. Raghanti envisions incorporating real Driver•i video clips into onboarding sessions for new hires, using real-world examples to reinforce safe driving behaviors.

The company also plans to establish a formal mentoring system where high-performing drivers, recognized through DriverStars and high GreenZone Scores, help coach newer drivers. “We want to show recruits what good looks like from day one,” Raghanti explains.

Dutch Maid is further exploring how to use consistent performance data to identify and support drivers at risk of leaving, aiming to provide proactive feedback and incentives to improve satisfaction and engagement. “The system is just phenomenal,” Raghanti says. “It’s not only helped us reduce risky driving. It’s changed how we think about safety altogether.”
