NOVA Engineering & Environmental, founded in 1996, is a trusted industry leader providing environmental consulting, geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, and compliance services. With 20 office locations across the Southeast and project work performed nationwide, NOVA supports clients at scale with nearly 500 vehicles and drivers in the field. The team conducts 300–400 tests and inspections daily, ensuring structural integrity, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability. NOVA remains committed to excellence and to building lasting partnerships grounded in trust and collaboration.

For three years, NOVA had relied on a prior vendor as its camera-based safety system, but its accident rate remained stagnant. Jonathan Caylor, Corporate Vice President of Safety & Fleet Services, explained that the previous system did not perform as expected despite long-term use, and the team struggled with inconsistent driver scores and limited transparency. Without reliable data or driver engagement, managers found it difficult to coach effectively and motivate safer driving habits. Recognizing the need for a solution that could truly drive improvement, NOVA began exploring alternatives.
Selecting a Trusted Safety Partner
After evaluating several providers, including Geotab and Motive, NOVA selected Netradyne for its combination of real-time safety alerts, full-context clarity, and positive driver engagement. Caylor said, “Netradyne stood out because of its full-context approach. Drivers earn rewards for good driving, they can self-coach, and our managers finally trust the scores.”
Creating Driver Trust with Full Context Analysis
Unlike event-only systems, Netradyne analyzes drive time in near totality using edge-based AI to identify and upload critical moments in real time. This ensures drivers receive instant, in-cab alerts while managers gain GreenZone® Driver Scores backed by full predictive context, reducing false positives and eliminating the guesswork behind safety coaching. The Driver•i platform’s explainable AI and transparent scoring helped NOVA rebuild trust in their safety data.
Partnering for a Successful Implementation
When describing the onboarding experience, Caylor appreciated Netradyne’s collaboration and partnership, helping the team resolve technical hurdles and strengthen the partnership. After 3 months, NOVA successfully integrated the platform and trained managers to maximize its use. Caylor highlighted that while every system will present challenges, the team at Netradyne has always been able to find a resolution to every issue that we have presented. Their previous provider often deflected issues and avoided responsibility, explaining that “what they would do is either send us to a training video or explain why we were the cause.”

The impact of Netradyne was clear. In their first 8 months, NOVA has seen a steady decline in both At-Fault and No-Fault accidents, and driver engagement improved as the platform enabled self-coaching and gamification.
Key metrics include:

Caylor shared, “Our accident rate has dropped significantly since we installed Netradyne. We’re now below our goal for the first time since I started tracking five years ago.” He also highlighted the platform’s role in driver exoneration, explaining that in one serious incident, the inward-facing camera confirmed that a driver “did everything right, and that was huge,” preventing disciplinary action. Caylor explains that drivers who understand the benefits of the cameras are more engaged and motivated to improve their scores and driving habits.
Building on this momentum, NOVA plans to expand its use of Netradyne across all fleet operations and continue coaching drivers with data-driven insights. Caylor advises other companies considering similar solutions to prioritize engagement and communication, noting that it is essential to “over-communicate and train. Make sure every driver understands the ‘why’ and gets engaged with the Driver•i app. Once they see their score and how they can improve it, that’s when real change happens.”
NOVA’s experience demonstrates that combining transparent technology, driver empowerment, and a committed partnership can produce incredible improvements in both fleet safety and operational efficiency.
