Hill Brothers Transportation

Hill Brothers Transportation achieves ROI in less than 9 months with Netradyne

Company

Since 1986, Hill Brothers Transportation has served customers across the country with an efficient, family-oriented approach to trucking. Founded by four brothers, Pete, Al, Pat, and Jim Hill, the company was built on a shared commitment to hard work, dedication, and innovation. From its headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, Hill Brothers has continued to honor that legacy by providing exceptional service and investing in cutting-edge technology to keep its drivers and the public safe.

Challenge

Before adopting video safety technology, Hill Brothers relied solely on telematics data to monitor driver performance and manage risk. While useful, the data offered only a partial picture of events on the road. Without video context, this left gaps when it came to coaching opportunities and accident investigation.

“We didn’t have a true indication of what transpired during critical events,” explained Raul Soria, Director of Safety. “We were missing the ability to show drivers real-life feedback or to fully understand incidents when they happened.”

Without video evidence, Hill Brothers faced challenges in defending drivers against wrongful claims and identifying responsible parties in cases of unexplained damages at truck stops or on private property. The lack of visibility also limited proactive coaching opportunities, making it harder to foster the culture of safety they envisioned.

Solution

After evaluating four leading vendors, Hill Brothers selected Netradyne’s Driver•i platform for its advanced AI capabilities, driver-friendly tools, and superior performance. “Netradyne excelled in most areas compared to the competition,” said Soria.

The Driver•i system gives Hill Brothers real-time visibility into on-road events, making it possible to understand incidents as they happened rather than relying on delayed or incomplete reports. Its AI-powered risk scoring allowed the safety team to prioritize the most severe behaviors and focus on coaching efforts where they would have the greatest impact. Retrieving video evidence became simple and fast, enabling the team to respond to incidents from the office or in the field within minutes, an advantage that has proven critical in working with law enforcement and insurance adjusters.

The system’s seamless integration with Geotab and their ELD provider also added significant convenience. Back-office teams gained a single sign-on experience to view both telematics data and video events from one portal, while drivers could access their GreenZone scores and video events directly through their in-cab tablets. This ease of access fostered greater engagement among drivers, who began monitoring their performance daily and competing to achieve higher scores.

“Early on, some drivers were skeptical,” Soria noted. “But when they saw firsthand how the technology helped exonerate them from fault in incidents, they embraced it as a tool for their protection.”

Results

Since implementing Driver•i, Hill Brothers has seen measurable improvements across multiple areas of their operations.

The system paid for itself within just six to nine months of deployment, largely thanks to proactive coaching that helped prevent crashes and the ability to successfully recover costs from third-party damages. Easily accessible video footage has drastically reduced the time it takes to investigate incidents, allowing the team to provide critical information quickly in the event of an accident.

Beyond operational efficiencies, the Driver•i system has driven cultural change. Driver engagement with their GreenZone scores has created a friendly competition within the fleet, with drivers striving to rank among the top performers. “Our drivers want to be the best they can be. They monitor their scores regularly and even call us before we reach out if they spot something they can improve,” Soria shared.

Key achievements over the past 12 months (per 1,000 minutes):

  • DriverStars, awards for positive, defensive driving, increased by 50% per severe alert
  • Severe alerts decreased by 18%
  • Moderate alerts decreased by 29%

AI-powered event prioritization has also proven invaluable, helping the safety team manage their time more effectively by focusing on high-risk behaviors first. This approach has supported more meaningful coaching conversations and reinforced Hill Brothers’ commitment to keeping drivers safe on the road.

Next Steps

Hill Brothers continues to lean into technology to support its mission of getting drivers home safely. With Netradyne, they are focusing efforts where they matter most, coaching at-risk behaviors while recognizing and rewarding safe driving habits.

“I would recommend Netradyne over any other technology provider. The hardware, software, and AI continue to lead the industry. It’s done well for us, and we know it can do the same for other fleets,” said Soria.
