Company

Over the last two decades, Hitachi Cash Management Services Pvt. Ltd. has consistently redefined the cash management landscape with its comprehensive and customer centric solutions.

Commencing operations in 2001 (as Writer Safeguard Pvt. Ltd.), Hitachi Cash Management Services has since emerged as a leading provider of integrated cash management services with a strong network, the company manages a network of nearly 40,000 touchpoints—including ATMs and retail locations—spanning 25 states and 1,500 locations. Supported by a workforce of over 10,500 people, Hitachi Cash Management operates a massive fleet of more than 1,900 cash vans that service over 33,000 ATMs and 20,000 retail points nationwide.

Challenge

As one of India’s foremost cash management companies, Hitachi Cash Management faced the dual challenge of maintaining world-class service standards while ensuring the safety of its high-risk assets: its drivers and the cash they transport.

With cash vans constantly on the road, the fleet was prone to accidents attributed to unsafe driving behaviors, including impaired reaction times from fatigue, over-speeding, and tailgating. Beyond road safety, the leadership team sought a comprehensive solution to address critical operational challenges. This extended to capturing evidence of pilferage through internal and external vehicle views, identifying and addressing patterns of near-miss incidents and theft, and reducing SLA violations that risked harming brand credibility in the market.  They required a solution that would not only ensure compliance with MHA and RBI norms for cash-carrying vehicles but also provide assurance that all cash was safe and accounted for during transit.

Solution

In 2022,  Hitachi Cash Management turned to Netradyne to address these challenges, installing Netradyne’s Driver•i in approximately 50% of their vehicles as part of phase-1 of the engagement.

The device’s advanced sensors and vision-based technology allowed Hitachi Cash Management to capture and analyze several hundred data points per trip. High-definition cameras with IR (night vision) capability ensured clear footage even in low-light and nighttime conditions, critical for cash vans operating across extended hours. Combined enabled fleet managers to monitor vehicles most effectively, while also capturing internal and external camera evidence for security and compliance purposes.

Unlike traditional telematics, Driver•i enabled a culture of coaching rather than just monitoring. The company utilized the platform to implement automated, virtual, and in-person coaching, leveraging GreenZone® scores to provide drivers with fair, constructive feedback on their performance.

"Netradyne has been a success story for us. We started with a very small lot, but we use significant numbers of these devices today. In time, we will likely become one of the largest users of this technology as we continue to see great benefits."
- Manosh Bhattacharya , Country Head, Hitachi Cash Management

The 'GreenZone' is an industry-first CSA driver scoring metric that highlights positive driving - when a driver follows road safety rules the score goes up, and dips when a driver exhibits risky driving behavior. (calculated between 1 and 1,000 points)
