PGT Trucking Cuts Speeding by 50% with Netradyne

Company Summary
Founded in 1981, PGT Trucking, Inc. is a leading asset-based transportation provider offering flatbed, dedicated, international, and specialized freight services. Headquartered in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, PGT Trucking operates more than 1,000+ power units and 1,500 trailers across 35 terminals in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, serving the steel, building materials, machinery, and energy sectors. Known for its strong safety culture and commitment to innovation, PGT Trucking invests heavily in its drivers and in technology that improves visibility, manages risk, and delivers consistent, high-quality service, earning multiple Best Fleets to Drive For® honors.
Challenge
In 2018, as PGT Trucking's operations grew, leadership focused on strengthening visibility and insight into driver behavior to support proactive risk management. While traditional telematics data provided information on metrics such as speed and hard braking, it “couldn’t show us what was actually happening on the road,” explained Kent McGaughey, Safety Systems Administrator. “We had some visibility through telematics, but we couldn’t receive notifications for things like following distance, stop signs, and red lights.” Without that context, incident investigations sometimes lacked clarity, making claims resolution more time-consuming.
PGT Trucking wanted to improve how driver behavior was measured. “Without video, it was challenging to consistently identify coaching opportunities, recognize positive driving habits, or proactively change driver behaviors to prevent incidents,” McGaughey said. At the same time, the transportation industry was moving toward video-based safety systems, and leadership wanted PGT Trucking to stay ahead of the curve. “Our ownership thrives on technology and being a leader in the industry,” McGaughey shared. “We saw that as a way to reduce risk incidents and get more proactive insight on driver behavior and risk.”
Solution
PGT Trucking selected Netradyne’s Fleet Safety solution to gain visibility and driver risk insights that were missing from its existing safety program. A key differentiator was Netradyne’s four-way camera configuration, which includes left and right-side of the cab views in addition to road-facing and in-cab cameras. “They give us a broader view and more clarity than the standard fisheye-only cameras,” McGaughey noted.

Equally important was the depth of Netradyne’s GreenZone Score and reporting. The platform allowed PGT Trucking to move beyond basic alerts and toward detailed trend analysis, scoring, and structured coaching workflows. McGaughey explained, “We use the GreenZone Scores every day for driver coaching, safety bonuses, vehicle allocation, and customer assignments. It’s the foundation of our driver management.” Netradyne’s hands-on approach during the sales and onboarding process also reinforced confidence in the partnership: "Netradyne proactively brought their team and product to us, tied every aspect back to our needs, and left no gaps in our evaluation. It was a thorough and complete process.”
Implementation began with company-owned vehicles at a single terminal. After several months of hands-on learning and process refinement, PGT Trucking expanded the deployment fleetwide. Over the next three years, the program scaled to include liquefied petroleum trucks, agent trucks, company cars, maintenance vehicles, and independent contractor trucks, and today, all PGT Trucking equipment is monitored through the program.
Netradyne is now embedded across daily safety, risk, and coaching operations, supported by a dedicated account team and technical resources. As McGaughey summarized, “it’s part of our everyday operations.”
Results
Since implementing Netradyne, PGT Trucking has achieved meaningful improvements in safety, driver behavior, and operational efficiency. GreenZone Scores are now central to daily operations, guiding coaching, safety incentives, vehicle assignments, and customer allocation. Camera coaches and safety managers use video and trend data to focus efforts where they make the biggest impact, helping prevent incidents before they occur. The system has also streamlined risk management, enabling faster claims resolution, clearer fault determination, and more effective subrogation, while reducing time spent on incident investigations.
Key measurable results include:
- 50% reduction in speeding over the last 18 months through targeted alerts and ongoing monitoring
- More than 80-point improvement in average GreenZone Scores among the fleet’s lowest-performing drivers
Next Steps
PGT Trucking continues to evolve its use of Netradyne as part of their commitment to proactive safety management and driver development. “We’re starting to share more videos with drivers through the Driver•i app so they can see their scores and understand their behavior firsthand,” said McGaughey. “It empowers self-awareness and accountability, and lets drivers take ownership of improving their own safety.” Coaching programs continue to standardize, focusing on early intervention and measurable improvement rather than reactive discipline. McGaughey explained, “We take the bottom 20 drivers each month and work with them directly to bring their scores up. It’s about helping them improve, not just pointing out mistakes.”
PGT Trucking is also deepening its use of integrations, including ELD validation for yard moves, personal conveyance, and other HOS events, to strengthen compliance and reduce administrative effort. “The platform allows us to confirm exactly what’s happening in real time, so our safety and operations teams can act on facts rather than guesswork,” McGaughey noted. As data automation and reporting capabilities expand, the company plans to further streamline workflows and surface insights more quickly across its diverse fleet.
By embedding video- based safety system into daily operations, PGT Trucking has positioned safety, transparency, and continuous improvement as long-term competitive
