Challenge

As a nationwide fleet operator with thousands of vehicles and drivers, Aim faced the challenge of maintaining consistent safety performance across its diverse operations. Before 2021, Aim had no in-cab video telematics system. Safety management relied heavily on interviews, driver feedback, and engine data — a process that left significant gaps in understanding driver behavior.

“I don't need a motorist complaint, a crash, or a bad roadside inspection to know I have a problem. With our previous process, it was hard to get in front of issues before they escalated.”

Ron Bourque Jr.
SVP of Safety & Risk Management at Aim Transportation Solutions

Bourque spent years studying video telematics providers, carefully weighing functionality, cost, and driver acceptance before moving forward.

Solution

In 2021, Aim implemented Netradyne’s Driver•i video safety platform after piloting three leading solutions. What set Netradyne apart was its unique scoring philosophy. The GreenZone Scoring system evaluates the driver’s entire day, not just triggered alerts. It accounts for behaviors like following distance, relative speed, and speeding, offering a nuanced, professional view of driver performance. The platform’s ability to provide granular insights, such as tracking compliance with stop signs and identifying trends across the fleet, was unmatched.

“The scoring system stood out as the most valuable tool in the kit. I haven’t seen anything else come close to replicating what Netradyne offers.”

Ron Bourque Jr.
SVP of Safety & Risk Management at Aim Transportation Solutions

Aim used these insights to recognize top performers in newsletters and social media and to engage lower-performing drivers through coaching and competitions. The platform also helped safety managers streamline their work by focusing on the most severe alerts, freeing up time to have meaningful conversations with drivers.

Results

Four years into using Netradyne, Netradyne has fundamentally transformed Aim’s safety culture from reactive to proactive. “We work on alert prevention rather than crash prevention,” Bourque noted. “That’s been profoundly impactful from the beginning.”

55% of AIM drivers maintain a GreenZone score above 950, with 37% exceeding a score of 975.

The company’s Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) score for unsafe driving has been in the single digits for several years. The fleet continues to show year-over-year improvement.

Key achievements over the past 12 months (per 1,000 minutes) include:

  • DriverStars per severe alert increased by 19%
  • Severe alerts decreased by 35%
  • Moderate alerts decreased by 39%

This success has been embraced by drivers, who now see the technology as a tool for professional development. High-performing drivers have embraced the Driver-i app, taking pride in their scores and using real-time feedback to refine their skills.

“The drivers who care about their score wouldn’t want to drive without it,” said Bourque. “It’s become a daily tool they rely on.”

Next Steps

Aim plans to build on its success with Netradyne by continuing to drive higher GreenZone scores fleetwide through competitions and coaching. The company also plans to leverage Netradyne’s analytics to identify new areas for improvement and showcase its safety leadership to customers as a key differentiator in securing and retaining contracts.

“With Netradyne, we’re not just catching problems, we’re preventing them. It’s allowed us to create a positive environment where we celebrate success and coach for improvement,” Bourque concluded.
